On Wednesday, 25 February 2026 (10:00–13:00), the University of Milan will host the presentation of the volume The Enforcement of ESG The Human Rights and EU Private International Law (HERO) Module is pleased to announce a Guest Seminar Series featuring Ms Fernanda Hopenhaym Cabrera, Member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights.
This four-part seminar series, entitled “The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) in Practice”, is organised in the framework of the courses EU Law on Business and Human Rights (Prof. Angelica Bonfanti), International Human Ritghts Law and Human Rights and EU Private International Law (Dr Michele Grassi)
The UNGPs represent the cornerstone of the global governance framework on business and human rights. Their practical implementation raises complex questions that are central to the HERO project, particularly concerning access to remedies in cross-border contexts, jurisdiction and applicable law in transnational human rights litigation and corporate accountability within EU private international law frameworks.
Fernanda Hopenhaym Cabrera is an internationally recognised expert in business and human rights and currently serves as a Member of the United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights. She has extensive experience in promoting corporate accountability, advising on the implementation of the UNGPs, and engaging with states, civil society, and business actors at the global level. Her work focuses in particular on access to justice, responsible business conduct, and the operationalisation of human rights due diligence.
